Ariadne logoAriadne is a Web magazine for information professionals. Since its inception in January 1996 it has attempted to keep the busy practitioner abreast of current digital library initiatives as well as technological developments further afield.

It originally  concentrated on reporting in depth to the information community at large on progress and developments within the UK Electronic Libraries Programme (eLib), covering matters such as information service developments and information networking issues worldwide. It now reports on current JISC-funded programmes and services as well as digital library, escience, elearning and related developments in within the UK and abroad.

Ariadne is published by UKOLNAriadne generally seeks to inform readers with a variety of articles in each issue, some technical, some of a more strategic nature, in the anticipation that most readers will find something of relevance to their work or interests in every issue.

Who Provides Ariadne?

The Ariadne editor is Richard Waller.  Richard’s role as Ariadne editor began with issue number 36 which was published in July 2003 (although he coedited for the previous issue) . In July 2011 issue 67 was published which means that Richard has been sole editor for no fewer than 32 issues in over five years.

If you would like to receive automated updates of new content you can subscribe to the Ariadne RSS feed.  In addition the @ariadne_ukoln Twitter account is used to send brief update of new articles.

Ariadne was launched in January 1996. The editor for the launch issue of Ariadne on the Web was John Kirriemuir. Ar that time Ariadne was a dual print and online magazine, with the online version providing additional content for which there was no space in the print version.

John Kirriemuir bowed out as editor after the tenth issue. Isobel Stark was the acting Ariadne editor for the eleventh issue.  Philip Hunter was then appointed as Ariadne editor and he had responsibility for Ariadne from issue 12 until issue 35, which he co-edited with Richard Waller.
